Could it have been one of those unmanned tractors programmed to go back and forth across a field using GPS and automated steering?

Still takes a human to turn at the end rows as of now, or at least with what's available from John Deere Greenstar and Trimble Autosteer systems. Probably won't be long though, biggest problem is that nothing monitors the implements. If you loose a tire, wheel bearing, plug up with straw or other material, there's nothing to detect it other than the human in the driver seat.

All these years in OK, and I've never laid eyes on a tornadie. Tried, went chasing a few times... now I just watch from the front porch.
Same here, lived here 67 years and never seen one. Not even the EF5 that tore up our house; it was raining and blowing so hard I didn't try to see it, just got in the shelter in the garage when channel 9 said it was about a mile from our place.
