Now I have a serious question, since I ride a motorcycle with locking hard bags am I in violation of the law if I get off the bike to open my bag and slip my pistol in and lock it up on school property? My truck is one thing I can disarm without setting foot in the parking lot, but to disarm when I ride I have to get off the bike to open the bag and slip my pistol into it.

Yes, you would be in violation of the law. The law does not allow a firearm to be stored in a locked container of a motorcycle on school property. Motorcycle was not included in the legal definition of "motor vehicle" for this statute.

HB 2614 said:
For the purposes of this section, "motor vehicle" means any automobile, truck, minivan or sports utility vehicle.

I cut this from Feb's amended version, dont see any others listed on SB 229 on OKlegistlature.gov, couldnt find the final passed version, so you should be good, but it wont happen till Nov 1, and we should see the official version before then. But it looks good if this is the one that passed.

G. For the purposes of this section, "motor vehicle" means any
automobile, truck, minivan, sports utility vehicle, motorcycle,
motor scooter and any other vehicle required to be registered under
the Oklahoma Vehicle License and Registration Act.

Passed version is HB2614 and it does not include motorcycles in the definition of a vehicle as it pertains to that section. So yes I would be in violation.

You're right, good catch.

Assholes, it's easier to shatter a truck window and open the truck door than it is to beat through ABS which flexes and doesn't shatter.

I think the real problem is that you are not within the vehicle when stowing the weapon while on a motorcycle. Basically, if you step foot onto the school property with your weapon you are guilty of a misdemeanor as I read the law. You've got to stow and secure within the confines of your vehicle prior to exiting and of course locking it to meet the standards set out within the law.

Wow. Take a few months off from OSA, and return to learn about a moto exemption to my favorite new law. Thanks for your work, seriously. Any chance you guys can get my vehicle deemed a vehicle before Nov. 1?
