RaysZ71, don't you smoke weed? That's a pretty big no-no... A little moreso than the credit

Where did that come from?? Are you angry or jealous of me in some way?? What does my personal life have anything to do with the advice I gave him? It's one of their requirements. Wow, some people..:screwy:

OKCPD isnt bad, but it isnt what it used to be.

My dad ended up leaving the force @ 30 years in (7 years edmond, 23 years OKCPD) due to PTSD after a series of severe incedences. He is well taken care of due to reaching 30 years with the Louisiana plan.

As far as his path.
Started as a patrol officer and was out of hefner in the 10th street district. Did that for around 5 years and got tired. Transfered to undercover SWAT for 10 years. Transfered to PTO and trained officers for about 5 years and hated it. Transfered to homicide detectives for 2 years and was run off from that. long story there. Did patrol for 1 additional year before retiring from PTSD.

His main complaints were Leutinants were forced to be desk jockeys by upper ranks and weren't allowed to assist and patrol calls like they were in the earlier days. Shifts were lengthened, overlap decreased, and numbers decreased. Extra programs were reduced. My dad was apart of a program called Weed-n-seed for a long time and it was terminated despite its success. RAIDD or whatever the acronym is was open for a while to do as you want, now they assign you to areas and you're required to write a quota of tickets per shift.

As many have said, his main complaint was the shift of paperwork burden. Also, he has now been retired for 4 years and is still receiving subpoenas to come to court on cases from years past. Its a downside because my parents want to retire to Colorado but he doesn't want to have to commute to Oklahoma alot.

Lets see.....Family stress, work stress, people pretty much know how to do your job better than you no matter what it is, you are highly criticized and scrutinized. Your city will not back you most of the time, Most folks at the pd level are agenda driven, you are surrounded by bullies in badges that can get you caught up in some ********.....

BUT,
if you can get passed all that and see what positive impact you can create and keep that in perspective...Its a great life style. yes I said lifestyle. You are forever changes after you become an LEO....you and your family.

I love who and what I have become and do....its who I am. It sure aint for everyone though

Hardly. You beat me to the post so it would actually be the post prior to yours.

LOL ... I thought you were being kinda touchy ... actually VDoc's assessment of chain of command is pretty accurate in certain instances. No job is perfect ...

And if he has a wife (or S/O) he seriously needs to have a little "come to Jesus" meeting with her. And she needs to go on a few ride alongs ...

So...Politics, hidden agendas, mountains of paperwork, lots of stress. Hmmm, kinda sounds like my current job. I've always wanted to do some sort of law enforcement job, not just PD. I looked at being a Texas Game Warden for a long time, but had some issues with how they select/enroll recruits. I might look into something similar for Oklahoma, I'm just searching for info at the moment on some avenues that are available to me. And my wife has repeatedly told me she'd be supportive no matter what my job was, I imagine being married to LE isn't too much different than military spouse, but then again, I'm not exactly in those shoes either.
