Food and Booze are my go-to gifts.

For over 20 years my sister/brother always say,,,
What do you want from Santa this year.

I always answer, food,,,
They are tea-totalers so booze is out of the question.

Every year I get a 6-pack of socks or a shirt,,,
One year I got a set of sheets.

Mind you, I'm grateful for any gift,,,
But why they won't listen to me is puzzling.

A few years back my one nephew did listen,,,
He bought a cheap laundry basket form Walmart,,,
And filled it with things like small canned hams, cans of deviled meat,,,
And all kinds of good snack food (Beefaroni and the like) that he knew I would like.

Nothing says I Love You like a Hormel Canned Ham,,,
Wonderful sandwiches for a week or two.

I raved about that basket all year,,,
Hoping for my relatives to take the danged hint,,,
I told them, "Every time I reached into that basket I thought good things about my nephew."

But the very next Christmas it was back to shirts and socks,,,
I guess buying food at a grocery store isn't festive.

For my friends who imbibe alcohol,,,
A bottle of their favorite booze is appropriate,,,
It's something I know they will use and hopefully enjoy.

For my friends who don't imbibe alcohol,,,
It's a nice little cooler with a full meal inside of it,,,
One year it was four Cornish Game Hens with al the side dishes for a feast.

My friends looked at me kind of funny when they opened it,,,
But later on told me how much they enjoyed that feast.

All of my people are full grown adults (most of them anyways),,,
Who make a decent living and can afford anything they actually want.

I look at gifts as treats they normally wouldn't indulge in for themselves.

Just sayin',,,

Aarond

Actually did this last year, have many friends and family out of state. Older family members got a Krugerrand! Not a gold one, a silver one. 1 oz silver coins are still under $30... for now. Knives are always good, but have them give you a penny or dime first (for good luck.) Also many sales on decent LED flashlights. Fisher Space Pens also make great gifts, always good to have in the car. The goal is to give a gift that one will remember or use. Got younger kids, the remote control helicopters are inexpensive and fun, and easy to fly indoors, some even have cameras for an under $30 to $40 price. Adults like them too.

Yep Food is a good thing . Mixed nuts and Jerky.
I sometimes make a wood basket and put homemade jams and jerky and store bought nuts in it.

I have made knives for gifts and have also made tables and benches from trees I have cut down.

Not much money involved in the jam or wooden furniture making but there is some time invested.

Sister-in-law gets a cedar bench this year.
She is always stoked to see what I will make for her.
Or at least she acts like it.

:)

How to make a wooden basket.

Cut a 2" wafer from a tree limb of appropriate diameter for the base of the basket.
8" diameter?
Then take twigs and finish nail them to the base and weave some string around the tops and bend a longer thin branch for a handle.

They look better than I can explain it.

Heard some talk about Temu today. We all know it's a website from communist china.
It was on Kim Komando. She said that it offers cheap mediocre products in exchange for Temu to gain every bit of information your cell phone or computer has to offer. Bank accounts, credit card numbers and so on.
Same as tic toc.
Thanks for the heads up! I'm going to research that information and take appropriate action.
