I posted in another thread that we’re having my wife’s sister and brother in law up to our OK place this weekends, and we’re probably going to do some fishing. Knowing that neither has fished much or any, I decided I needed to pick up a couple beginner rod/reel combos. I checked out Academy’s website and found a Zebco 33 “gold” combo that had all 5 star reviews, so we went to the nearest store to check them out. I was pleasantly surprised. I bought two (which is the daily limit :anyone:), and I think they’re going to do just fine for as infrequently I have guest (or plan to have guests).:thumb:

To be honest, the price tag didn’t surprise me, and I’m fairly confident I’ve spent more and got less.
My wife and I are going up a day early (Saturday), so I can get the grass mowed and tidy up the house before the fam get‘s there. I may take one out Sunday morning to give it a try.
I’ll report back. :thumb:

One year fishing the grand parents farm pond in Missouri.
6 of us fishing my son and I were catching the most fish.
Other relatives mentioned we have the best poles and lines is why we were catching the most.

I told my son to give up his rod and i gave up mine to the others fishing.
We both walked to the barn and pulled the cane poles out that had twisted white twine on them and a single hook.
We caught grass hoppers on the way back and still caught more fish on those than the others there fishing.
Pond fishing is pretty fun.

You should have a cane pole to loan out.

I’m not sure how a cane pole would hold up to a 18-20” channel cat. Having something that long where you could just drop your stink bait into the hole instead of having to cast under limbs would be nice.
