Sad deal that a cyclist died, but you have to find humor in the much-deserved royal screwing the driver is already getting. Do attorneys sometime go " I want to put this jerk in jail too! Let me help!" What day in law school do they teach you to incriminate your client to the media immediately?

BROKEN ARROW, Oklahoma -

A man who believes he struck and killed a Broken Arrow bicyclist is turning himself in to the Broken Arrow Police Department Friday morning, according to a local attorney.

The attorney called News On 6 to say his client thought he'd hit an inanimate object and did not realize it was a person until seeing the news.

The body of 71-year-old cyclist Earl Teske was discovered in a ditch along 101st Street between 193rd East Avenue and Lynn Lane Wednesday night.

The man had a 4-year-old daughter in a booster seat and may have been distracted, the lawyer said.

The attorney also said the man was at a poker tournament at the Hard Rock Casino for a few hours that night and had had a few beers, but the attorney says his client was not intoxicated.

The man's name is not being released at this time.

This guy better hire a babysitter for the next 5-10 years.

It was so smart to ride your bike in the street at 10:30 at night with no reflective clothing, no tail light or headlight.
I'm just guessing he wasn't abiding by the rules of the road, but no one will ever know. It may have been his only mode of transportation. There is a guy that use to ride his bike by here every day.
Play stupid games win stupid prizes.

I rode my bike by the same spot just a week or so ago, but not at night. I walked by there yesterday and the cars were doing about 60 mph in a 40 zone. Add that to texting and everything else people are so busy with in their cars these days and riding a bike on the street anymore just isn't safe.
I grew up riding a bicycle on the streets of Houston and across 4 lanes of I-10 but it is just not the same with distracted drivers these days.

A man on a bicycle is a fairly large object. If he really thought he hit an extremely large inanimate object it still just takes 1 minute to check and make sure. Calling the police yourself while on the scene would change the seriousness of this big time. Not trying to be accusatory, but sounds like he may have been intoxicated enough that he did not want to have to do a breath test on the scene.

Peanut from what I understand his bicycle had a battery operated tail light and a headlight. As to if they were working at the time of the incident that's beyond my knowledge.

I hear ya 68 stang.
Just most cyclist don't want to abide by the rules but expect everyone else to wait on them, move for them although they are in the middle of the rode doing 22 mph.
I know, i ride a bike at the same spot and see cyclist ride by here daily.

I agree, that part of 101st Street - as well as parts of other streets in the area - doesn't allow any margin of safety for a cyclist. I think this every time I come across someone riding a bike on one of these streets: "An accident just waiting to happen!" That's why I stick to the Riverparks trails for my bike riding, and I wonder why the cyclists on the shoulder-less streets near the trails don't do the same.
