looks like the driver is talented at making bad choices
* drinking and driving
* D&D with his child
* being "Distracted" enough to not realize he just hit an object that had to at least weighed 150lbs
* Fleeing
* Talking about his crime
* Allowing this lawyer to say all this

Sounds like this guy needs to ask the wizard for a brain.

The only situation I can think of where saying this to the press was a good idea would be if the actual facts of the situation are a lot worse.

Usually, if you're going to get a story out there, you want to portray your client in the best light possible to combat the negative that you know is coming.

To me, it sounds more like this attorney just wanted to get HIS name out there as quickly as possible.

Not much could be worse unless he hit the guy intentionally. His attorney has copped to him being DUI, and made him seem like a scummy parent/citizen/man on top of that. Not enough to incriminate him, let's make sure nobody could possibly like him or sympathize with him.

One time I had a lady with a pretty heavy Asian accent call my cell phone and leave me a voicemail. She thought I was her attorney. Apparently she was embezzling/stealing money from work and got caught, and she left this rambling message that alternated between her crying, saying she was scared, and describing in detail how she took the money. It went on until the time limit cut her off. People are so dumb. I wanted to mess with her but I was too lazy so all I did was play it for my friends on speaker and laugh.

Dude, that was ME! I was wondering why you never called me back in my time of need. :(

I agree, that part of 101st Street - as well as parts of other streets in the area - doesn't allow any margin of safety for a cyclist. I think this every time I come across someone riding a bike on one of these streets: "An accident just waiting to happen!" That's why I stick to the Riverparks trails for my bike riding, and I wonder why the cyclists on the shoulder-less streets near the trails don't do the same.

For whatever reason/s it's too bad the gentleman was killed. I guess two accidents with bikes/cars happend Wednesday. A young lady hit a car that turned left in front of her, on the access road behind the Sand Spring Walmart. Scared the crap out of the grandma heading to watch a soccer game of a grand child. But the cyclist got multiple lacerations (including an almost cut off nose), a broken arm and a seriously screwed up bike. The area on 101st street is pretty bad as are most of the two lane and three lane roads in that area. I ride out there too but it scares the spit out of me all the time. Folks in cars either don't care or are not paying attention for whatever life reasons they have...and I try to ride on the white line all the time. The reason seasoned bike riders stay on the street is that it is somewhat dangerouse to ride on the river trail when the trail is busy. Particularly at the speeds they ride at... 22MPH was mentioned but a lot of these folks can ride 25-30MPH. As a result, I've started riding on the trail leaving NE State parking lot at the Creek Turnpike. There's usually little foot or bike traffic and the ride is really hilly so the workout is good.

I lost a good friend less than a month ago, killed while riding her bicycle in Mineral Wells, Tx. There was a memorial ride for her today. Cyclists are people, too, even if they're not like you, even if you don't like them.
