Why are prices so high and low and everywhere inbetween here?

Well, they gotta be somewhere. I guess I don't understand your complaint. Would you prefer that they all be high so they would be consistent?

No, but it seems there should be some form of competitiveness and uniformity, at least to some degree.

Looking for some insight here - why are people so high and low on prices? There was just a thread posted about a new store, even, and how their prices are all over the place.

Why are prices so high and low and everywhere inbetween here? I've also noticed that the work they offer around here is expensive and often subpar.
Pricing can go at least two ways (1) Look at what the gun costs, then think about the percentage of profit you want/need to make, and mark the gun accordingly; or (2) Look at what the competition (this includes big box stores, local gun shops, and the Interweb's all-time favorites, the Internet Pirates of high and low repute) is selling said gun for and mark the gun accordingly. Then there's a third option (3) Buy gun, mark it up 20% or so to cover your expenses and (A) listen to the carping of the Fans of Internet Pirates telling you your prices are out of sight, so you then (B) drop your price by 10%, only to see that your local Big Box Behemoth is offering said gun for about 5% over your cost, so you either (C) mark the gun down to match the price of the Big Box Bozos, or you (D) hold the line on price and listen to more carping from the gun buying crowd that keeps the Big Box stores and Internet Pirates in business, all the while watching the inventory you've paid for with your hard-earned money sit there and gather dust. Makes you wanna get in the gun bidness, don't it?

The biggest issues with prices at local shops is owner greed. Then there is a lack of knowledge about market price.

The real reason we haven't quit our day jobs is that we're building FBT on earned money, we have never borrowed a penny. Starting next month the size of our shop will more than double as we're taking on the shop next door to ours. It will take a while to fill the new shop wall to wall with inventory, but as our regular customers can tell you, we are constantly expanding our product lines and we will get the store loaded with fixtures and inventory eventually.

Congrats!
