The TC Hotshot is a good one too. If you have a lefty kid it would be better and is ambidextrous. I bought one to teach a grand kid.

Theses little guns are more important to help keep our 2A rights than an AR15. Getting more people shooting is very important.

For my kids I tried the Marlin Lil Buckaroo but was still little bit big for them. (started when they were very young)
I then went with the wood stock Crickett so could shorten length of pull even more. It's app. 26.5" (26" is min overall legal length) and it seems to work well for my youngest grandchild. They then move to the Marlin Buckaroo. After that, the next one is a 10-22. Oldest grand daughter is about there. She's 10.
I think the single shot, open sights are the way to learn, then move on to repeaters with scope, etc.
