Looking for new kid friendly pet.

As some of you know I had to get rid of my yellow lab a while back due to financial issues, but now we are doing well again and looking for a new family pet. I'm not sure if I want a dog or a cat. I don't care for cats much but my wife absolutely loves them and that would be a nice surprise for her.

Either way it needs to be kid friendly. Just figured I'd ask around here as well since I know many of you shelter animals.

If you're not sure you'll remain on good financial ground, I'd say get something cheaper, like a hamster.

I probably will. I think I'll try to find a really young puppy this time instead of one that's already a year old.

Thanks for the advice, but we are good. We just went through a rough patch.

Don't get a ferret. My buddy got one and it bit him every chance it got.

He kept threatening to skin it alive, jerk a knot in it's tail and make a sock out of it...

I have 3 rats in a cage we would gladly donate - low maintenance they can be fun and you can feed them anything.
