Seriously starting to look like a game of Battleship mixed with a game of Risk. Now the biggest question, with all these forces in the area is it all for nothing but posture or are we watching the slow start to a serious conflict not many want to acknowledge will happen.

The Kremlin's chief of staff says Russia has been sending warships to the Mediterranean Sea for possible evacuation of Russian citizens from Syria.

Russian news agencies on Thursday quoted Sergei Ivanov as saying that Russia has been boosting its naval presence in the Mediterranean "primarily" in order to organize a possible evacuation of Russians from Syria.

The thing that worries me the most is not necessarily Syrian forces on the ground being a threat to our armed forces, its Russia's presence and there response if we do attack. I do know that the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov is scheduled to enter the Mediterranean some time this year and that would only heat things up. Russia generally acts rationally though.

Soon after, an American fighter pilot attempting to intercept an enemy plane over the Mediterranean inadvertently fires an AIM-9 Sidewinder heat-seeking missile that goes off course and hits an ammunition depot in Latakia, Syria, resulting in a large explosion. This event becomes the apparent casus belli for the Soviet Union to launch a nuclear strike against the United States and her allies. Early the following morning, Soviet missiles arrive from over the Arctic, as well as from submarine, while American missiles are sent in response.
