Just thought I would share a couple pictures of a neat little rifle that I did a little cleaning on today. This is my first experience with one.

It was a lever action Marlin 39, .22LR. The owner (who is part of the forum and will probably chime in) came over with it today to see if we could take off a substantial amount of surface rust that had built up after many years.

Anyway, it was a neat old rifle, and I thought some of you may like it. The owner has an interesting story about where it's heading too... but I'll reserve that story for him. :)

And yes, the pictures are taken with my Android... it's just so easy...

half of the receiver done:

All finished (yeah, I know I didn't take many "before" pictures, but I was eager to get started)

It cleaned up REAL nice. :yelclap:

Isn't that barrel longer than the normal #39 barrel?

To be completely honest with you, I'd be lying if I tried to tell you one way or another. I really like the older guns, especially lever guns, but I know very little about them.

It was purdy nice though, and I wish I would have had the opportunity shoot it.

It have an interesting rifling on it though, it was very tight and light, if that makes any sense?

Stan did a FANTASTIC cleaning job on this rifle! I was very pleased! Thanks again for a job well done!
I did find one bad thing though when I got home, The receiver has been reblued, It was originally color case hardened? But for what I paid for it I can live with it if I can't get the blue off?
That is the original barrell length for a 39 not a 39A.
We can shoot it whenever you want to Stan, before it goes to the west coast or southern La. whichever house he choses!

The rifling you spoke of is the Marlin Microgroove rifling, IIRC.

The more I handle and look at the older lever guns, the more I want one, or two, or well you get the idea.

I'd like a Marlin 39, a 336 or whatever their .30-30 is, an 1895 .45-70, and a Win 94 .30-30. For starters... Oh! Forgot a .357 mag lever too, gotta have a matching lever to the wheelguns.

That's a nice early 39 ... the owner should be proud to own that rifle.

If that 39 is like the one I have... and most I've messed with... that a rifle you can strike matches with and split playing cards... 39's are wicked accurate for the most part.
