Marlin 39...

This is a '67 vintage 39 C .... offhand from about 35 yards... the ammo was a pocketfull of mixed Long rifle... clad, hollow point, 36 and 40 grain. The bullseye it the size of a .25Cent coin.

Tree Rats shudder when this rifle enters the pecan grove.

This model 39 could possibly be going into the collection of Steven Seagall, I have a friend who deals with him and he collects older weapons and cowboy "stuff". Not positive if he is gonna take it but our mutual friend says it is very likely, Wish I could deliver it myself!

The rifling you spoke of is the Marlin Microgroove rifling, IIRC.

Microgrove didn't come out until the 50's. The 39 went to the 39A in the '30s.

Interesting gun, and everything but the barrel should have been case hardened (IIRC).

The barrel has always been long on the 39's and 39A's, but they made a mountie model (39M) that had a shorter barrel (also had a straight grip and lever).

My maternal Grandfather who lived in Statesboro Ga. used a 39 to keep the squirrel's out of his pecan tree's. He lived in town on about 6 acre's of land, and as long as he used .22 shorts it made less noise than a pellet rifle. Most of the slugs never even went all the way through the vermin. Of course this was 30+ years ago, an nobody batted an eye at doing something like this inside the city limits.

Here is a pic of a 39M I was given by by dad, I have since given it to my son. This has had hundreds of rounds shot thru it in past 30+ years.

Great clean-up. Love the 39 have a coouple of them. Been shooting one for over 45 years excellent squirrel rifle especially with a Marbles peep sight. One day I am going to buy a 39Mountie but the ones I have seen are a bit pricey. My brother bought his for $49 back when, now in bad shape they bring 10 times that. Enjoy your find....
