All depends on what you're really interested in hunting. Relics are a little scarce in this region, but can be found with lots of research and a good attitude(which I haven't managed to get yet lol). Otherwise, I'd hunt old parks and older houses, with permission of course.

Dennishoddy makes a super point as well. I don't know about OK, but MO has a general "You can't dig a hole" type of rule on Corp property, even if you try to get a permit to detect from them, which is ironic.

Being in Okmulgee, you're a ways away from the 2 clubs I know of around here, Indian Territory Treasure Hunting Club and 3-Forks Treasure Hunting Club.

ITTHC holds meetings in Owasso, and their website is here:

3 Forks club holds their meetings in Wagoner, and their website is here:
http://www.threeforkstreasurehunters.org/

You might want to contact them and find out if there are any members closer to you though, and they may help you out more.

Always remember, leave it better than you found it and fill in your holes. I lost access to a super Civil War site before I even asked because the people that hunted it before me failed to treat the landowners property right, and that is happening a lot more these days, even though clubs try to train the new hunters right.

Take care and happy hunting!

I have several old home places that I've wanted to run a decter over. Any suggestions for one that won't break the bank?

Sorry for the hi jack Mr. Haney. Back on track I would like to know were to hunt in Oklahoma as well.

The one I recommend for anyone starting out is a Garrett Ace-250. Although they've got some newer versions out, it is an awesome detector for around $200. If you want cheaper than that, you'll have to go old-school off eBay or a Bounty Hunter from Walmart/Bass Pro/Cabelas etc., but they still don't stack up to the Ace in my opinion.

If you're hunting old home places, and you're just starting out detecting, best way is just to dig everything until you get a good idea of what your detector is telling you on the screen and in your headphones. Like above though, make sure to fill in your holes really good, even if you own the place, because it's just good practice if you go hunt somewhere else.

It's probably the only longstanding hobby I have. I'm heading to MO to do some this weekend, as well as last weekend of trout fishing!

you have one of the best metal detector clubs there in Owasso.
They have many group treasure hunts with lots of silver to hunt for and lots of support from other members about where to search and what to search for.

Have fun.
