I have some .223 lake city ammo with a green painted tip . Does anyone know what the green paint means ?

If it is military ammo it is 5.56mm not .223 (no, they are not the same). The green tip indicates it is M855 ammo which has a steel penetrator in the tip.

You're welcome. You could put it up for sale in the classifieds here on OSA. 300rds would be worth about $150.

I counted it all and there is 298 rounds and it is about half ball and half with a green tip . the paint is wore off most of it but you can tell it was there

Looks like a red tipped tracer and an M200 blank down near the stripper clip guide.

WOW! Another that knows there IS a difference between 5.56MM and .223 Rem.
