Eagle Scout does NOT require that merit badge so don't be so quick to judge. What it requires more than anything is dedication and hard work which it sounds like these boys certainly had.
I don't think we're disputing that. What doesn't pass the sniff test is the 2nd line from the article.

"Leo, Nick and Steven Cantos did it all — whitewater rafting, ziplining, archery, knot-tying, learning first-aid skills and more — without being able to see."

Practicing Whitewater rafting, archery, first aid,... kinda need sight for that.

Doesn't matter if they needed help or not, what matters is they showed up, tried their hardest, and had fun. Participation awards and scholarships for everyone!

Damn, we have a lot of curmudgeons up in here. Kudos to those three boys!

I have helped a few Boy Scout groups earn their Archaeology badges where I work, with flintknapping, etc. The task would be tough for one of them to do if they had impaired eyesight, but you can bet that I'd try my damnedest to help them do it.

Years ago, I volunteered at the UCO Blaze games. I was watching a wheelchair basketball game, and the referee (also handicapped) said something that's stuck with me. "Just because you've been cheated by god, doesn't mean you get to cheat on my court." Idk maybe it doesn't apply here
