What'd you upgrade to the D300 from?

I've been trying to pick out a new body and cant really decide.. but I know I can't afford that fancy one you just bought!

LOL yeah I probably shouldn't have bought it. I'm a noob photog. Buuut.. I really liked some of what it had to offer so I went for it. After some family portrait settings and stuff it'll pay for a lot of itself.

I upgraded from a D50. I have some pretty nice glass already so I was able to buy the body only. Of course the D300 takes CF while the D50 took SD so I have to buy new memory and whatnot too.

I've heard a lot of good things about the D80 though if you aren't ready to go big w/ the D300. But it all depends on what you have now.

Yeah I've been trying to decide which way to go recently too..

I used to do a bit of film photog and still have a few nikkor lenses that will work on the dslrs, but they aren't worth tailoring a decision around.

I've been looking at both the D80 and 60, and cant decide.. the D60 wont do auto exposure bracketing, and the d80 doesn't have Active D-lighting like your d300 and even the D60 now do. Plus the D80 has been out for a few years and rumors have it to be replaced shortly, but I don't know that I want to wait and see what that turns out to be.

I was thinking the D60 and that sweet little 18-200VR lens would be a nice all around rig.. but with that combo I'm looking at enough money to buy some really sweet gear more appropriate to the context of this forum ;-)

Hah yeah, actually Nikon is due to make some new equipment announcements this month. Not sure if they've been made quite yet but they may be dropping something you will be interested in. I don't know for sure. The only leaked news I've heard thus far is a possibly D700.

Anyhow, yeah it's hard to choose between the hobbies. I finally decided I should just let the photography stuff pay for itself and started doing some stuff for $$. It's working out alright so far. I don't want to make a job out of it but friends and stuff holler at me for portraits, seniors, etc so I turn the money made around for more gear. =]

So Elijah turns 1 year old Saturday. It's insane to think that he is already 1. Time has definitely flown by.

Here's a few shots from the past couple months..

[you may be able to tell what happened in this one.. while playing with mom's scrunchie (sp?) he managed to pop himself in the mouth with it. he wasn't extremely happy about doing that.]
