My old Appleseed Ruger .22 needs a face lift. I could shoot those little quarter sized groups at 25 yards prone and even smaller off a bench rest with iron sights. My son has also decided that it is fun trying to beat his pop shooting small groups (he can't do it yet) and has bought his own 10-22 (if he will start buying his own ammo...). So I thought I had better update a few things.

First I ordered one of these.

20 inch barrel from Kidd.

Then I ordered this stock.

Tacticool from Boyd's actually Midway had them a little cheaper unfinished.

Test fit.

I have stained the stock Dark Walnut and am finishing it with Boiled Linseed Oil this week. On order is a scope base, rings and a scope. More pics to follow.

That stock fit so good I bought another one. Upgrading kind of got out of hand though. My rifle doesn't have any Ruger parts in it, totally Kidd except for the stock and scope. My sons rifle still has some of the original parts in it.

I have since replaced the receiver with one from Kidd.

Nice! How's the weight and balance for shooting off hand?

I am not sure how much either of these rifles weigh. They are heavier that a stock 10-22 but are way lighter that a M1 Garand. The balance point is just forward of the trigger guard. I don't think anyone would have problems shooting these offhand, except mine has that 8x32x44 scope that would tend to drive someone crazy shooting offhand.

This is a game on another forum.

Here is a target. Both of these were at 50 yards.

This is where I shot on my buddies target. He was shooting at 100 yards. I didn't want to mess up his target so I shot up in the corner. He didn't even know I was doing it until he went down range to pull it.

I think I have a little room for improvement, we'll see as the weather warms and I get used to the front and rear rests.

Very nice! I love the look of that stock... it looks very comfortable. I think I've seen that rifle before it had all of those mods... are you going to make it to any of the Appleseeds this year? If you were going to go for a high score on the AQT, that would be the rifle to do it with! We have a pretty good schedule posted on the website. We have Stillwater on Feb. 23-24... we'll be doing a 100 yard AQT there on Sunday.

I got my Riflemans patch back when you guys were at Canadian Ranges. I wouldn't mind trying for a blue one if it was going to be cold enough.( I have to retract that statement, after getting gas this morning. 15 degrees is too cold to be shooting.) I have a sling for that rifle but haven't tried to use it. I am thinking about removing the 2 front sling swivels as they interfere with my front rest.

Aha! It's been a while.

I'm hoping we can give out some of the blue patches at Stillwater. One of my buddies who lives nearby really wants one... he is who talked me into making the Stillwater shoot in February!
