All these recent threads on what gun,,,
If you could only have one rifle,,,
Have got me to thinking.

Perhaps it is time for me to thin the herd a bit,,,
Perhaps get it down to one of each type,,,
Bolt, Semi, single-shot, etc.

For certain my three keepers are:
Bolt action/scoped would be my CZ-457 Pro Varmint,,,
Semi-auto/scoped would be my CZ-512 full rifle,,,
Single shot/irons would be my es340B Mauser.

Oh, I want a youth rifle for my young friends,,,
That's why I would keep my Crickett.

I would hate parting with my CZ-512 Carbine,,,
Just because it's just so dang cute,,,
And it shoots like a dream,,,
I'll probably keep it.

Same with my Beretta U22 NEOS set,,,
I have one pistol with a 4.5" and 6" barrel,,,
And a second frame dedicated for the carbine kit.

Like the CZ-512 Carbine,,,
It's just too dang cute for me to part with.

That leaves just a few more to deal with.

I bought a Savage 3B from a pawn shop as a spur of the moment buy,,,
It has the original highly adjustable iron sights it came with,,,
And a set of some off brand peep sights as well.

The front sight had ( I think) a brass button on it but that's missing,,,
It would take just a wee bit of file work to even out where it was.

The rifle has a nice walnut stock that could be easily refinished to look great,,,
The bolt was chrome plated but about half has worn off,,,
I bought it as a project gun to gift to a boy I know,,,
But his Pop said no to a rifle so I abandoned it.

It's a shame because it shoots a "fat nickle" coin at 50 yards off of a bench rest,,,
It would make a great "first rifle" for a youth if it was cleaned up.

I was on a kick wanting to shoot in my clubs "military rifle" matches,,,
Since they did allow .22 trainers I searched and bought a Polish WZ-48.

The serial number of the bolt doesn't match the rest of the rifle's numbers,,,
And while the stock isn't cracked or broken it is "well used".
That doesn't affect it's performance though,,,
I can hit 12 gauge shells at 25 yards all day long,,,
But since my club never got around to the matches I don't shoot it.

Then there is my "getting back into shooting" rifle I bought for myself,,,
It's a Mossberg 702 Plinkster I purchased new from Wal Mart.

It has the original sights which are very nice,,,
I also have 4 extra mags and installed a canvas sling.

I bought a set of "Tech-Sights" to set it up for Appleseed,,,
And years later I upgraded it and mounted a nice Cabela's 4X scope.

So while I know I only "need" three of the nine rifles,,,
I can only pare it down to a number of six.

I'm a weak man,,, :anyone:

Nothing quite like having options for shooting. Anytime I try playing the hypothetically "1 gun" game I find some reason to justify keeping them all...

I'm sure at some point I'll get sick of storing ammo, brass, reloading dies, etc. for so many calibers, but right now I enjoy playing with different rounds.

The best justification to keeping them all is,,,
The fact that they cost me nothing,,,
Just sitting in my gun cabinet.

The only grief they cause is the angst of saying to myself,,,
"I really need to take that one to the range",,,
I really don't "need" to do anything.

I need to stop doing that,,,
And just go to the range with my favorite of the day.

So I've decided that these three rifles can go:

1) Mossberg 702 Plinkster with Tech Sights and 4X Cabela's scope
2) Polish WZ-48 Trainer
3) Savage 3B

As soon as I can get some decent pictures,,,
I'll post them in the classified section.
