IMHO, these sheriffs are working among and with the people and not sucking the .gov mammary gland like their big city chief's of police are doing.

National sheriffs’ group, opposed to federal laws on guns and taxes, calls for defiance
By Tom Jackman April 28 at 5:00 AM

..."In essence, they are troubled by the overreach of the federal government in matters concerning guns, taxes and land management, and founder Richard Mack has described the federals as “the greatest threat we face today,” and his association as “the army to set our nation free.”...

It sounds like they are trying to support the citizens of their counties, but there is one statement in that article that sends up a warning flag.

“its ambition is to encourage law enforcement officers to defy laws they decide themselves are illegal.”

"They decide themselves"

What about the next law that comes along that they don't agree with? I'm a big fan of the second amendment and I'd like to see the NFA taken off the books, but a blanket statement like that is going to create some problems.

"Don't agree with" and "illegal" are two different things. Illegal (unconstitutional) laws should not be enforced.

In the military, we were instructed repeatedly that we were not to follow unlawful orders, regardless the source. This is the same thing.

I was in the military too. I know what you mean about unlawful orders. But this isn't an order, it's a law. In Oklahoma there is a section in Title 21 that requires a "duty to act". If an officer refuses to enforce the law, the officer can be charged with a crime.

It's one of those between a rock and a hard place things.

Of course, if the SCOTUS is crammed full of justices appointed by lib dems, "Unconstitutional Law" will take on a whole new meaning.

That made me think of this:
“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.”
“The question is,” said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many different things.”
“The question is,” said Humpty Dumpty, “which is to be master – – that’s all.”
