That article isn't exactly correct, Beale's wagon road was scouted and built from Ft. Smith Ar to the California border. It crossed Indian Territory and the Texas panhandle before it got to Ft Defiance Nm, where the article claims it began. There are several historical markers for "Beale's Wagon Road" that I've seen in Ok, one is on Hwy 9 in Stigler.
