Anybody out there in Tulsa that is a competent handyman that can install a hot water heater? The current installation is in the garage, on the ground in a hot water heater closet. I understand current city regulations require hot water heaters to be 18" off the ground. This doesn't seem like that hard of job and I don't feel like getting raped by a plumbing company. Surely there's somebody out there needing side jobs or some extra side money. Must be competent with this kind of stuff. I'm located in SE Tulsa.

Don't think it's just a "city regulations" thing.

Pretty sure it's required by the State Plumbing Code, also requires a licensed plumber to make changes to your potable water piping (raising it higher off the floor, etc.).

Plus, if it's a natural gas or propane hot water heater, some changes will be needed to the gas piping to raise that thing off the floor (State Code would also require a Gas Fitter's license).

As I recall, the intent of raising gas-fired hot water heaters off the floor was to minimize the possibility of fire/explosion in garages.

But....do you have a license to install said equiptment / with inspection?

I can help the homeowner install the equipment and he can get a homeowners inspection. I'm more than willing to help a fellow osa'er out for the fee of a case of beer.

He does not need a licensed professional if he does the work himself or with the help of friends. Unless plumbing is different in Tulsa county than electrical. Before I was licensed in electrical I had numerous friends that pulled their own permits and inspections during 2007's ice storm to repair their destroyed electrical service.
