This is what i believe to be a Lab and Husky mix (they say Alaskan husky but ive never heard of one.), i adopted him from the okc pound when he was about 3 months old in December. He is now about 2-2.5 ft tall at the shoulders and around 65 lbs, goofiest dog you will ever see once you get to playing with him he will get excited and put his butt in the air and roll over starting with his head like a somersault

ETA: ill add a new pic tomorrow after work.

i only went through page two so i dont know if anyone else suggested it or not but i had a full blood Akita and he was an awesome dog. Never barked, took very easily to training not to jump, potty outside, tell us when you need to potty etc.

Id love to have another Akita.

Also my dad still has our family pet. He is half lab-half wolf and he has got to be the tamest dog ever but he is very very protective of all of us even my 4 year old niece. he would protect her when she was younger and less watchful of the evil Pomeranian, and actually in a little over 10 years that we've had him i dont think ive ever heard him bark either, just growl at the other dogs my dad and step mom have gotten. hes probably around 70 -75lbs and when standing on his back legs he easily can get nose to nose with me and im a hair over 6'1".

I would also recommend a boxer as well. they are very loyal and loving dogs as well and good with kids.

Proph, he's SUCH a cutie! I can't WAIT to see pics!

As much as I love the Pyrenees and Lab I have now, what you want sounds just like my Brittany that I grew up with. They have a tendancy to be hyper, but the "oversized" ones tend to be more chill. Mine slightly topped out the breed standards for a female, and her brother was significantly larger. I showed her from elementary until high school. She was a total couch potato, but a really great obedience dog. My mom also did an obedience class with her, and even with me sitting in the stands, she still minded Mom perfectly. She'd let little kids crawl all over her and pull on her lips and ears and when she'd had enough, she'd just go find a different spot to lay. She's 13 now and still going strong. She doesn't hurt my parents chickens (although she does like to run out into the middle of them and "flush" em all and then just sit and watch them flutter), and she has such a soft mouth that she can go find eggs in the grass and bring them back to you without damaging the egg at all.

Hanna is about 21.5" at the shoulder (about 1" above breed standard) and a pretty healthy 55 lbs. LOVE that dog, can't say enough good things about her. Her brother is a great dog, too. Very similar laid-back temperament.

My basset was really easy to housebreak, loves every animal and person he meets, loves to play with everyone, and is tuckered out after a 45 minute walk, he weighs 55lbs and is a little over a year old. He does shed some year round but its nothing a daily brushing wont reduce significantly, he doesn't howl or bark unless he hears something suspicious or unless I egg him on because I love his bark...was housebroken in less than two weeks...

I'd say a golden, but i've got a feeling you won't enjoy it. We have 4 and pretty much gave up on wearing black. A goldendoodle or a labradoodle would solve that. Surprisingly, they're not nearly as gay looking as they sound.

The great pyrenees we have would also be be awesome, but the hair thing kills it

LOL ... we have GSDs ... only wear "neutral" colors ... :laugh6: I have the dullest wardrobe in town.

We have 3 of them, 1 is all white, to say we have fur is a huge understatement. The trade off is we don't have many door to door salesman stay around much and there have been a couple times guys have come by to offer to do "tree work" or what have you, and leave the neighborhood after visiting my house.Needless to say I don't worry much about leaving the wife home alone at night.

LOL ... yep ... I am fond of the effect my GSD has on people. She is so gentle with kids but wary of adults she does not know. Luckily she is a "vocal" dog. Talkative GSDs are worth their weight in gold, IMHO.

I like the teeth snap sound along with it. when my granddaughters come over they even hate it when we rough house. The cool thing is they get me to stop.
