Im kinda with slugger on the flag thing, same with the pledge, i just mumble along. The national anthem kinda the same, i stand and take my hat off, if someone close is talking or goofin, ill use my man voice.

As for Obamas flag and it resembleing a bengazi blood stain, thats a reach. A bunch a crap about nothing.

Sometimes I wonder if Ignernt isn't wasting his talent on a bunch of yahoos that don't fully appreciate the finer side of satire.

I thought Ignernt was clever back before it was the cool thing to do.

This thread is kinda like the thread a while back about the show of disrespect during the national anthem and the pledge of allegiance.
I still don't understand why we hold these pledges, sings, and strips of cloth in so high a regard.
The Flag Code wasn't committed to law until 1942, during the height of the war production.
Like the pledge and song, the honoring of the flag is a recent patriotic invention. I personally connect them with FDR's socialist and nationalistic policies. We revere our flag like the Communists did. Except it is OK to revere a strip of cloth because it ours and "good" and a symbol of freedom. (And no, I am not a sovereign citizen). I honestly think all this patriotic business created in the last century was to weaken our distrust in the state and promote a kind of patriotic collectivism.

So it doesn't inflame me or make me angry that Obama's campaign did that. I just find it weird. It is likely a cheap trick trying to play off the same patriotic symbol invented so many years ago.

And the headline of the linked article is ridiculous.

this is one of the more intelligent posts I've read here recently.

I think the flag fetish is symbolic of the problem with "patriotism" in this country. People froth at the mouth defending imagery. How is the country weakened exactly by someone doing a flag thing? The thing that weakens our country is the fact that people spend their time on this crap rather than educating themselves about real issues.

You should pose this to a WWII vet. Let us know the results

Look at the images of the American flag right here on OSA. One young man covers his face with an American flag. Another has a tattoo of an American flag burned and fragmented on his bicept. Flag protocol has changed a lot over the years. I don't know when it starting happenning. But when you see an american president signing an American flag, Standing on an American flag and sitting on an American flag, you have to wonder where everything went wrong Mr.Bush.

Flag protocalls are not what they were when I was a child. If you think this began with Barack Obama, you haven't been paying attention.
But now that Barack Hussein Obama is president, it has suddenly become important for you to pay attention? well, I'll GIVE you that. You have the right to do that. You have the right to suddenly start paying attention, and I'll defend that right till the day I die.
