One of the biggest issues I hear about is kids unable to speak English. This causes a drain on the teachers, and keeps the grade as a whole from excelling.

We could possibly create schools just for EASL students and teach them there. Incorporate United States cultural customs and allow only English to be spoken.

My son was recently stationed at the air base in Yuma. Small base, no DOD schools. My grand kids attended school in town. They had mexican kids at their schools who were brought across the border every day. That's our tax dollars hard at work! Just slays me that this info is swept under the rug.
I'm so glad they don't live there now!

This is the real problem causing shift to me. In the old days, immigrants worked their ass off to assimilate into the US. Now, the US is expected to accommodate and bend around the immigrant. We had something that was apparently attractive to immigrants. So, why not work to get on the team that attracted you?

I’m not sure this is a take that was ever made during periods of large scale immigration. We have a long history of hating the newest arrivals (Chinese, Irish, etc).

Yeah, we did. The early immigrants came in legitimately for the most part and in spite of the less than warm welcome, worked their ass off to assimilate into America.

Today, I don't think very many have a problem with legal immigrants. I like mexican/latinos. They typically have a work ethic, value family and have a sense of humor. I just have a problem with millions flooding across the border illegally. And most of that blame should land on our government, not them. If I and my family was in their situation, I'd do the same.

I agree with all of that.

Parents and homelife is as much or more to blame. High populations in every major city and not a Mexican or illegal.

Education can only be presented. There must be a willingness, an effort, a desire, an openness to receive it.
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. There must be a thirst.
