Officer Down Rescue I (1 day/8 hours)
Tactical Medicine: “Officer Down Rescue for Law Enforcement and EMS” All too often law enforcement officers place themselves in harms way. Unfortunately, in many events officers find themselves, or another officer gravely injured. Past events such as Waco, the North Hollywood incident and most recently the Burbank, CA shooting have changed the way law enforcement officers look at first aid in the field. Medical care in many of these cases falls to the officer on scene because the scene is not save enough for EMS units. This class will also show EMS personnel how to work with law enforcement officers to complete or take part in the rescue of a downed officer. This 8-hour class (2 hrs. classroom, 2 hrs. of hands-on, and 4 hrs. SIMS scenarios) will help prepare law enforcement officers and EMS personnel to work together to rescue a downed officer. The training will utilize ballistic shields and the tactical blanket. To make training as realistic as possible, SIMS will be utilized for the last four hours of training scenarios.
