Bob Stoops and Mike Gundy are both state employees. if you notice there are troopers assigned to about every coach at the major university's across the country. It's just the way business is done, my understanding the troopers are on duty. As far as extra jobs, all state employees are required to report any extra job and it requires approval from their department head. Each agency has different protocol, my agency has a form that must be submitted prior to working a second job. OHP in general do not work second jobs but when you see them on the side of a road construction site with their lights on that isn't a regular assignment and are receiving extra pay. OHP did take furloughs and this was a mechanism to counteract the effects. The plus side is if they write tickets the state still gets the money for them. I worked a few OU home games when I worked for OUHSC PD. It was extra money and I was covered by the university. As far as the PD and the Sheriff's that work the games and if for some reason they were sued both the agency and the university could be liable. Apparently the original poster is worried about government waste and rightfully so. But assigning two troopers to two high profile employees is a drop in the bucket compared to what the state waste per day.
