OHP Troopers at College Football Games

From what I understand the Highway patrol provides troopers for all football games for both OU and OSU. I think as security for the coaches. I know nothing more about this because i am not a football fan.

However, I am a state employee and I am curious as to if the schools pay for these trooper's time and gas and for the use of their state car to do this? Not to mention the over time if any, the hotels, the per deim. In a time of drastic budget cuts, is this necessary? If the school does pay for it, then all is good.

Im sure the troopers dont mind going to the games and all. But Im just curious. If there are any troopers out there, how do they determine who get to goto the games? Or is it a special detail... Someone enlighten me please.

I would almost GUARANTEE that OU and OSU pay for it. It is no different than any other part time security job.....They would have to have permission from the top to take their vehicles.....I doubt they take them out of state....unless you are talking about home games....

I got a memo saying that state employees arent supposed to use their state vehicles for their part time jobs... Even if its another state job...

OU uses Clevland County Deputies, for home games

Im sure its no different than any other LEO and a part time security job. Im not sure I agree with them being able to use their department issued car and uniforms for a off duty gig but whatever

The dept. head can autherize the use of the vehicles off duty. As far as using them, doesn't bother me, they have jurisdiction all over the state anyways....the more police at the large events the better.......

I am not sure what it matters. I would be shocked if the schools don't pay all of the expense and salary of the officer. It is good to have an officer on the field at both home and away games. Much ado about nothing imo.

I can understand OHP using their cars but what about city cops driving 50+ miles for an off duty gig in their PD cars and wearing their PD uniforms. Kinda getting away from the OPs question but I see it at the Casino's during concerts and other events all the time
