Actually, football fan or not, they are NOT all that excited to be there. It is not their job to watch the game, it is their job to provide security in what can only be considered a disaster waiting to happen.

I will admit, there are perks to being a Trooper, though not as many as one would think. Working security at a football game is NOT one of them.

Yea they get to wear those AWESOME HATS.... :)

I can understand City policies and each cities decision, but im talking about State Departments.... OHP, DAs Offices, DHS, OBN, ABLE...Each one of these agencies have different policies but are under the same employer...

Not getting my feelings hurt either way, was just curious if the colleges paid OHP...lol

I honestly think that it is just a regular assignment for those guys. Nothing all that special ... just another day at work.

Where on Earth are you getting this opinion?

Without naming him, the Trooper for Gundy is a close family member and everything you are stating is the opposite of what he says.

It's a great honor to be selected and in his words "is awesome" and is the
Biggest perk I can think of for a Patrolman...

I can tell you as for the OHP gos you can contract them to work.. The Kirkpatrick Turn Pike is a privet owned highway and the OHPD is contracted and paid to have the highway patrol work it. As for at the games i would want a OHP Officer at my back any day over any other kind of law enforcement. OHP is rated one of three high stress academy's in the USA. I have know Marines who have gone in to the OHP and wished they could go back to the Marine Boot camp.

And they do have to ask there commanding officer about taking a 2nd job. I have tried to get one to work for me before.

:lmfao: And that, sir, is why he has the job. It is much like Executive Security. The guys there consider their job to be the best one in the department. The guys on the turnpike consider their job to be the best on in the department. Ask any trooper out there if his assignment is the cream of the crop and most will tell you it is.

My point was that it is just another assignment within the department (like executive security for the Gov.'s Mansion) and not some arbitary reward for being an extra special Super Trooper. And it is certainly not all fun and games, no pun intended. Like I said, he is there to provide security ... Not drink beer, eat popcorn and wave his pom-poms. :D

While that is true the troopers who work the turnpike are not working a second job while on the turnpike. The turnpike is their primary assignment.
