When cleaning out the house here, I found a file cabinet with all 30 years of mortgage statements my grandfather had received. Even the ones as current as 2002 (when he finally paid it off) has his SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER printed right on the front, next to his name and address.
It is amazing how idiotic some businesses operate. For the record, it was Commercial Federal (who I believe was bought out by Bank of the West).
He never had a debit card, just an ATM card that he kept in the little cloth/paper envelope cover thing they used to give you with them. When he purchased something (even cars), he just went and got the cash.
