Old ones used a chemical reaction that can and will cause fires.
The new commercial ones us a chemical that just glows.

I bought some pulled .30 cal bullets awhile back from Sportsman's Guide. They work really well in daylight or darkness.I bought a sealed can of military m856 tracer. I had forgotten team leaders kept m16 mags with them to direct team fire, otherwise I had only seen them loose or ina saw belt. Online they sell for a 1/rd
