Some things just go back to the simplest forms of information. No lights and crossbars at this railroad crossing. Of course, this particular line of the Santa Fe has been largely abandoned up through the Panhandle. This particular crossing is in Elkhart, KS, just inside the state line.

For decades, our family used to take our vacations and go camping at Purgatoire River Campground in Colorado. In getting there, we always took Highway 87 going into Raton, NM, and I ALWAYS loved seeing this view of the mountains there. Spending time in the mountains has always rejuvenated my spirit.

I'm a mountain man, myself. Never really cared about the beach --- unless it was the shore of a small lake in the mountains!

The one occasion for us to see any part of North Dakota was when we were assigned to do our Summer job doing some of the national parks. We got a rock chip in our windshield while still in Montana, and while the guy fixed our rock chip, he told me that after one saw the badlands of North Dakota, there wasn't much else to see. Fortunately for us, the Theodore Roosevelt National Park's north and south units are featuring those badlands, which as far as I was concerned, weren't all that bad. This picture was taken in the North Unit of the park.

Oh, and Merry Christmas to all of you. May this day be a blessing to you in many ways.
