How were these rules applied differently than in any other workplace? Or should gun ranges get a "free pass" solely because they are gun ranges?

No, gun ranges should not be given a "free pass", but their inspections should not be made "impossible or near impossible to pass" either. If you read the article, you know that David Michaels(Obama's pick to head OSHA) is no friend of gun owners and is willing to use 'public health' to further Obama's under the radar gun control measures. It is just like the AMA/doctors in Florida asking their patients about gun ownership, which is none of the doctors business. Gun owners need to pull their heads out and realize there are many forms of gun control and the leftwingers will employ them all in their never ending quest for power and control.
