So back to the original question that has not been addressed yet. What company has the best value?

Trupanion, Petsbest, and Lemonade are supposed to be good? I have never used them, nor have I looked at their coverages. Personally, I'd just set up an Ally account and put some money into it making ~4% or so for a rainy day. Unless your pet is already unhealthy, in which they might be denied coverage anyways.

Used to be, you went in , the doc stuck a thermometer up the dogs butt, took a blood sample and said here's some medicine. The dog should feel better soon.
Then a long came insurance and the doctor got a case of Stoopid.
We got to run tests, maybe a MRI or cat scan. Can I interest you in an insurance policy?
$40 doctor visit became $400 or more instantly.
Rush Limbaugh used to say (although about people insurance but sounds like same same for pets)...
If it wasn't for insurance, you couldn't afford health care.
