PICS Successful MN Bear Hunt

Buddy and I went on our first bear hunt up in Minnesota. Both scored bears. Hunted for 3 days before we even saw one. Got my bear on day 4 and my buddy got his on day 5. Considered ourselves very lucky to both get bears considering how slow it was going.

It's not bad tasting, but it is very greasy meat.

I always remembered my Uncles rug from a black bear he got in Co.

I gotta tell you we cooked up some bear and it was EXCELLENT! Everybody at the table agreed it was better than deer or elk. I was shocked it tasted so good, but it did.

I went strictly with my rifle. 45/70 Marlin. Got mine out of a ground blind. All hunting was over bait. It was tough sledding. 13 guys hunting the evening I shot my bear and I was the only one to kill anything.

My buddy took a bow, but it was tough sledding and his wisely switched to my rifle the last evening and scored his bear. Good thing he did to, because the bear never presented a bow shot.
