propane smoker

I've been wanting to get a smoker for awhile now. I'm new to smoking and want something fairly easy to regulate, thats what drew me into the propane smoker. Has anyone got any experiance with one of these and the other question is how efficient are they with the fuel. How long will a 5 gal. bottle last on average.

No experience with propane but I just bought a Masterbuilt electric smokehouse that is all digital control. Just set the desired temperature and the timer and go take a nap. When you wake up, your food is done! Bass Pro has them on sale right now.

the electric sounds awesome...I have a verticle smoker and its a pita and takes tons of wood and charcoal to keep the temp up

My opinion is go electric all the way. You get precise temperature control and never have to worry about running out of gas on long smokes.

I had a wood smoker for years.......bought a Traeger pellet smoker about 3 years ago.....I would never go back to just wood....

Bought a used Big Green Egg 2 years ago for $500. Haven't used my propane grill since. I can load it with Lump Charcoal and smoke a pork shoulder for 18+ hours without ever lifting the lid or adding charcoal. One of the best investments I've ever made.
