If this person was a gay female basketball player they would already be home.
Actually, she was held & in prison for 9 months before being released. So technically, he can’t get released until around January in order to have the same detention benefit as a gay female basketball player..If this person was a gay female basketball player they would already be home.
i feel for the guy, but he broke the law of another country (even if inadvertent). If we expect visitors here to follow our laws, why would we send anyone 'in' to get this guy?
Would we do the same against mexico, or canada, or china or russia? Would we allow another country to tell us how to enforce our laws in such a situation?
wasn't there an american who was sentenced to be caned in singapore in the 90s for violating one of their laws?
what you're describing is an issue with mandatory minimums, which we use for drug crimes here in some places. It doesn't allow for 'honest mistakes'12 years for willfully attempting to traffic arms or ammunition to another country, sure.
but potentially facing over a decade in prison over what could be construed as an honest mistake, 4 rounds of ammunition, is absurd.
I think it would be appropriate to ban US travel there, in the same way we ban travel to North Korea.
Quite the juxtaposition, isn’t it.Yeah! Another one just got caught. This time TWO rounds in a bag. I wish we would enforce border laws like they do.
