Blackhawk Down, the book.

It is great. It sheds some insight into our f'ed up foreign policy that didn't make it into the movie version. Bowden talks about how our entangling alliances with the UN get us into situations like that where we're taking sides in a conflict in some 3rd world craphole that has nothing to do with us.

You really get to know the soldiers involved, as well, and he makes you feel like you are there in the middle of the action. Great writing.

Not recent, but read Rudyard Kipling's poetry. "Tommy," "The Young British Soldier," "Bo Da Thone," and countless others.

Anything by Vince Flynn, all his stuff takes place in current day, and is stuff you could see happening. Hard to put down once you pick up one of his books.

I just finished "WAR" by Sebastian Junger. He was a journalist embedded in the mountains of the Korengal valley in Afghanistan and recently released this. Excellent book, all real. My ereader even has clips of video that he shot during combat. Very good read.

But Hemingway's war/post war stories are great.
