Canada: Toronto police sweep homes for firearms

They used to be legal firearms, but now they're either unregistered or outright banned, and they're wanted by police before there's a chance burglars put them in Toronto's underground and underworld markets. Since March 1, Project Safe City swept 400 unregistered weapons 150 of them handguns from homes throughout the city. No charges were filed. Police are reviewing thousands of gun ownership files to determine which weapons have lapsed registrations and which are now banned.

Sounds to me like the criminals already stole the guns.

Toronto's in Quebec, right? I don't see this kind of thing going down in, say, Saskatchewan, where most folks shot the bird to the gun registry in the first place.

Nope its not in Quebec. You're probably thinking of Montreal.

Its a very big city however so I agree otherwise.

I failed Canadian geography in school.

Still, their gun registration has been a massive failure considering Canadians' high rate of non compliance.

I noticed the Canadian authorities didn't get too pushy trying to force compliance, either. Think maybe the authorities feared they might run into a bit too much well armed non-compliance?
