Been interested in reloading for a while and saw that the local VoTech is offering an instructional course. Has anyone taken it? If so, is it worth my time?
Why pay for something that you can learn for free? I am certain that in your area that there are members that would be happy to teach you how. And any GOOD reloading manual has a section that will take you through all of the steps. It really isnt difficult. I enjoy the handloading more than the shooting.
Buy and read The ABC'S of Reloading, Modern Reloading, by Richard Lee, 2nd Ed. and Lyman 49the Ed. to get all the information you could want about every step to reloading cartridges. Most likely this is where the instructor at the local Vo-Tech gets his information!
A good place to start is the "sticky" at the top of this section: Reloading FAQ's.... It addresses questions you should be asking yourself about your particular needs and gives an overview of the process and equipment involved... If you have specific questions - ask um here... there are no stupid ones - safety practice and discipline in doing so are the most important skill sets... just be careful asking about single stage versus progressive... haha... some of us have strong opinions about the best machine(s) to use and brand loyality can run deep.... but it's all good...
Call Zeke at H&H, he holds classes and very knowledgeable. Zeke is very good to answer all questions. I always learn faster by seeing it done, then doing it myself.
and youtube can give you a look at the process, check out the videos that show assemblying and setup out of the box, but as said before, get some reloading books and manuals.
I'm still a newbie myself at reloading, but I find it enjoyable as well.
I got the lyman 49th and read it a few times then I got a lee classic loader in 30-30.
This little investment paid off big, learned the basics of reloading and i was rewarded with better ammo(more accurate)
than i could buy at walmart.
That is how i started 5 or 6 years ago.
Now i have all kinds of reloading stuff, i have more invested in that stuff than all my guns and scopes combined.
Get the books!
