They just got lost in the bolt action/"better accuracy craze imo. They were and still are minute of whitetail accurate in every caliber they made.............................and they're just not very attractive compared to other firearms to some lol.

I always keep an eye open for 788 in .243 at gunshows. People keep 788's in family. I know a family who has 4 generations killing deer with a 788 in 3030
Have Pop's in 6mm Remington and it's a Lazer. Would also like to find some in 243 and 30-30.

Had no idea that they were considered "budget guns" at the time, learned something new today.

The appeal is there. That's the issue, when they come up, they sell QUICK. They don't come up often, budget friendly, accurate, not too party to drag through the woods. People keep them.
