Reports show gun homicides down since 1990s
By ALAN FRAM- May. 7 7:27 PM EDT

....."A study released Tuesday by the government's Bureau of Justice Statistics found that gun-related homicides dropped from 18,253 in 1993 to 11,101 in 2011. That's a 39 percent reduction.

Another report by the private Pew Research Center found a similar decline by looking at the rate of gun homicides, which compares the number of killings to the size of the country's growing population. It found that the number of gun homicides per 100,000 people fell from 7 in 1993 to 3.6 in 2010, a drop of 49 percent.".....

Yeah, read another story on that last night, and I had to laugh my butt off at the "comments" at the end of the article from the anti-gunners.

Lotsa' of "But but but but but" comments.

Althought it's appeared in several news agencies, CNN and other government owned news stations have yet to pick it up on their websites.

It'd really be in conflict with their tone these last few months

Here's some highlights.

http://bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/fv9311.pdf

Firearm-related homicides declined 39%, from 18,253 in
1993 to 11,101 in 2011

Nonfatal firearm crimes declined 69%, from 1.5 million
victimizations in 1993 to 467,300 victimizations in 2011.

For both fatal and nonfatal firearm victimizations, the
majority of the decline occurred during the 10-year period
from 1993 to 2002.

Firearm violence accounted for about 70% of all homicides
and less than 10% of all nonfatal violent crime from 1993 to
2011.

About 70% to 80% of firearm homicides and 90% of
nonfatal firearm victimizations were committed with a
handgun from 1993 to 2011.

From 1993 to 2010, males, blacks, and persons ages 18 to 24
had the highest rates of firearm homicide.

In 2007-11, about 23% of victims of nonfatal firearm crime
were injured.

About 61% of nonfatal firearm violence was reported to
the police in 2007-11.

In 2007-11, less than 1% of victims in all nonfatal violent
crimes reported using a firearm to defend themselves
during the incident.

In 2004, among state prison inmates who possessed a gun
at the time of offense, less than 2% bought their firearm at
a flea market or gun show
(unpossible all criminals get their illegal guns @ gunshows)

In 2007-11, less than 1% of victims in all nonfatal violent
crimes reported using a firearm to defend themselves
during the incident.

That less than one percent is nearly a quarter million. And there were another 100,000 who used a gun to defend against a property crime. And no telling how many more used a gun to completely prevent what could have been a violent crime or put a stop to a violent crime with a fatality.

The inmate gun question is interesting too. Nearly 80% get guns from relatives or from an illegal source. Gun shows have remained at a consistent o.8%.

One thing I have always wondered is why drinking and driving homicides never list the car as a weapon?

Well then, why do people still need all those nasty old guns since it's all going down anyway?
Despite the decline, the United States still has a higher rate of homicide than other developed countries, the study says.
That's just awful! We look bad to the rest of the world!
The United States also has a higher rate of gun ownership than any other developed country, the study said.
Hey, maybe if we could get rid of all those guns we could get the homicide rate down even lower!

Pfffft.

Creative wording makes for good propaganda.

Urban welfare violence? Liberal empowerment of crime? Nanny-state crime encouragement?
