I'm far from being a bad ass, no one should be humbled by me, and I appreciate the thanks. I was one of over 40 American's working for the USACoE destroying all the captured munitions in Iraq. We were but one of four sites/depots operating 6 days a week from sun up to sun down. All the military would provide for us was a secure place to sleep, other than that we had to provide our own security for convoys, work site, and our billeting area. Besides what munitions were at our work areas we had to take calls from all military branch's for large scale finds on munitions, and had to go pick it up, and bring it back to be destroyed in our blast pits. We were destroying 150 to 350 tons every other day(talk about a fire works show), and burning hundreds of tons of artillery powders, fuses, and small arms ammunition every day. So IED's, VBIED's, rocket/mortar attacks were common place, because alibaba wanted what we had an couldn't get, an he was always trying to kill us one way or the other. So during convoys everyone tended to get plenty of trigger time, and every time you heard something screatching overhead all you could do was find dirt, and pray it didn't hit a magazine or bunker that was to close. We were one of the highest paying companies in country, and also the one with the highest attrition rate. Right before I left, USAE(USA Enviromental) was offering pre-employment bonuses to get people to come to work(regular handler 25,000, QA 35,000, Explosive Safety specialist 45,000), some folks just don't like getting shot at. P.S. I liked the money I was getting, and it may sound corny, I would have done the job for alot less. What I did kept alot of soldiers, marines, airmen, and sailors from getting blown up, shot up, or just plane old kill't. As long as it saved one life it was worth everything else we had to put up with there!!
