They are harder, I use them in my really hot .357 loads because they don't flatten out as much and don't jam up my Green Machine at the size/de-prime station
Not sure about small primers, but large rifle primers are a tad bit taller than large pistol primers, and may not seat below flush. Probably not a problem in a semi-auto, but can definitely be a problem in tubular magazine rifles chambered for pistol cartridges, like my Rossi '92 or Uberti Henry, both in .44-40.
Anyway, it's something to think about.
