First question is what is your purpose for the weapon - then make a determination of which is better suited to that purpose.
- Home defense only?
- Range use and/or amateur competition?
- Work (LEO)?
- Concealed Carry?

The SD is a fine pistol, basically an improved Sigma. But given the deals you can get on an M&P, it's probably a better "deal" to spend the money on the M&P up front.

Also, the S&W "survival kit" package is on close out at Academy for $378. That includes the SD pistol and a bunch of other bug out knick knack junk, but it is 22 dollars cheaper than simply buying the pistol. Just FYI.
