This message was brought to you by the same government that wants you believe the economy is doing just peachy...

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

I'm not sure why SS recipiants should get a COLA when a lot of (I won't say majority because I don't know, but it's got to be a fair amount of) employers aren't handing them out to employees. When times are tough - they suck for everybody.

One difference is that some of us who draw SS are getting a little long in the tooth to aggressively compete in the job market. If you don't like what you're making go to work for someone else or join a union, God forbid. Another difference is we paid into the SS system 50+ years with the understanding that we'd get a return adjusted to some reasonable extent for inflation. After you've made that kind of long term investment and reached your mid 60s+ you're welcome to climb on my back and tell me what you think I should or shouldn't get from my investment in SS.

Yep the numbers put out by the .gov are propagandic crap. I too will use my checkbook to do the gauging, thank you very much.

My healthcare insurance has doubled since Obama took office.
Gasoline has doubled since Obama took office.
Some groceries have close to doubled since Obama took office.
My utilities are definitely higher, though I don't know the number.
Meanwhile, my auto insurance, homeowners insurance, property taxes and sales taxes have sure as hell not went down any.

I can just imagine how it must be if you only have SS for an income stream. You guys keep on drinking that government furnished kool-aid...

Fair enough, but at the same time - I'm investing in that same pot of money and its likely I'll not see any of it (I'd kill for something even with no COLA).

If the economy is down and the government isn't bringing in the revenue (I'm not saying they're not squandering away what they're getting) then its really just part of the deal isn't it? If you had invested in stocks and they weren't doing well, you'd be in the same position right?

Don't get me wrong for a second - I have sympathy for those of you who did your time in the working world and aren't getting back what the government promised but at the same time, At least you're getting something :)

Uhhh.... define "sky high"

http://www.usinflationcalculator.com/inflation/historical-inflation-rates/

We've been under 3% all year for 2012.

Bwhahahahahahhahahaahaahhahah !!!!! You actually belive that ?

The thing about all this REAL inflation is that it directly impacts low income people the most. Obama supporters just don't get this. Do you think the billionaire gives a **** if his grocery bill goes up from $100 to $150 a week in one year? Do you think all the big business execs give a **** if it now costs $100 to fill up their Mercedes SUV instead of $50 ?

But do you have any data on the subject?

What do you feel is a more reliable price index? How has it fared in the past 10 years compared to CPI-W?

The price of fuel is as reliable an indicator as you will find. I know that the most noticeable effects from inflation for me is the price of fuel and fertilizer. Grain and meat prices are high because if you guys want food on the shelf, we gotta cover big azz bills.

How do we take that cost of fuel all the way out to the cost of goods?

So how do you think your individual experience aligns with that of the average American, or average Social Security recipient?
Since we're using your checkbook to gauge the nation, how have overall expenses gone up for them?
