I’m not a baseball fan and don’t know crap about the game, so why the heck would the catcher think it was a good idea to be at third base and not covering home plate?

If the third baseman is going to cover second base, then the catcher is supposed to cover third. Likewise, if the first baseman backs up to catch a ball, then the catcher is to try to cover first base or if a ball is being thrown to first base from the outfield, the catcher backs up the first baseman in case he misses catching the ball.

By the same token, the pitcher is also called upon to "back up" any of the bases, including home plate.

Ok, but in this case, the catcher is at third, the pitcher is wandering around like he’s lost, and NO ONE IS AT HOME PLATE except the next batter.🤣

Correct. All of this occurred because the pitcher didn't go to cover second base. Had he done so, the third baseman would have been where he should be and the catcher would as well.

Pitcher SHOULD have covered 3rd. 2nd should have been at 2nd.

LF, CF, SS and 3rd going after the ball.

As it was, catcher at 3rd is correct. 1st should have been covering home.

In the heat of the game, very few Pros would have gotten it all correct. Videos highlighted every day of Pros making Keystone Cops moves.
