Only reason I selected "background check for ammo" is pretty simple. Something will change, eventually, and it could be much worse than just a background check. If they instilled a system where you have to apply for a card of sorts to be eligible to buy guns and ammo, but leave everything else alone I would be happy. Sure, it would suck to have to go and take some class and test and what not, but it would suck much more to continue to only be able to buy 1 box of ammo at a time, or not even be allowed to own particular guns. If it would keep the gun Nazi's at bay, and help keep more people safe, I say sure, where do I take the class at.

The thing is, it won't keep the gun nazis at bay. Sure it would start as a "shall issue" card....and then how long until it became a "may issue" card? Always remember that the only way they will be satisfied is when there is a complete and total prohibition on guns.

The thing is if it were a perfect world, we wouldn't have to worry about any of this, but it's not. If it were as simple as I said, I would all be for it, but we all know it's not. To me, gun control is about a lot of issues that people don't want to address. I've always been an advocate that "guns don't kill people, people kill people". How to rightfully say that someone shouldn't own a gun, and to prevent a gun from getting in their hands is something totally different.

Major issues to me is:

Mental Healthcare
economy (when people have already lost everything, they have nothing to lose)
Judicial system (true blood criminals going free/not harsh enough penalties)
and one a lot of people don't want to hear... parenting

There is no way to make 100% of everyone happy, in ANYTHING. It's a slippery slope, especially when something escalates as far as this has. I hope the true issues get addressed, not superficial band aides that will worsen the situation. At the end of the day, we all want the same thing, our untainted Right to Bear Arms.

Can't argue with that one bit. Can only hope that not only the Senate, but the American people become more gun educated before trying to tackle something like this. My wife was one of those "ban assault weapons" people, until I explained what exactly that weapon is, then I bought one, and now she laughs due to how "scary" the gun is. She is more afraid of my hunting guns than my AR15. She knows they are big, kick like a mule, and have "big bullets". Gun education is a big problem, all people see is a picture, some horror stories, and someone that sees the word assault with it.

In the case of guns and the uneducated American people, perception is reality when you don't know any better.
