What's not to love about a L frame 44 Special in a package that weighs less that 19 oz? Apparently a lot, as it was discontinued after only two years. Perhaps it was the recoil, or the crimp jump, or its stunning looks...
Probably a little bit of all the above. It is fugly, and I'll bet the recoil was not pleasant.

Isn't there something on the side saying not to use bullet heavier that 200 grain?
Yes. It reads "MAX BULLET 200 GRAIN" on the right side of the barrel. Heavier bullets are prone to extraction from the cartridges under recoil.
The humpback .38s are fugly too, but they shoot very very well. I suspect it was the recoil issues and it probably wasn't all that concealable either.
