After tons and tons of reviews, websites and exploring different brands, I've decided on this as my next watch...

The Stuhrling Regatta Espora...

As far as details go, it's probably the best Rolex Submariner clone I have ever seen. But don't take my word for it, judge for yourself...

The Stuhrling is an awesome watch. 44mm case, screw down crown, and it's a quartz. A Swiss quartz to boot, but for some reason I thinking of giving an auto another try. :rolleyes2

Therefore, I have this one in mind as well.

The Invicta 0420...

It too is a nice homage to the Rolex Submariner. It is made entirely of Titanium and has a NH35A 24 jewel S.I.I. Seiko automatic movement.

Here's a video that shows an up close and personal look at it...

Of course, I'm still kicking around the idea of going a whole different direction and picking up a pilot's/field watch...

I'm driving my self nuts here. :scream: Which one do I pick? :anyone:

If the Sub look is what you are after, check out Steinhart watches. Swiss ETA movements, 42mm, 300m water resistance, great lume....

I figured this was the appropriate thread for this video.

Im curious if anyone knows if the spinning contraption with all the watches on it is for winding the movements? or something else?

Sorry EZ, but I went with the Invicta. :rolleyes2

I based my decision on several reasons, a couple of reviews and the good word of a 0420 owner.

First of all, I like it's size; with my big ol' gorilla arms (9 inch wrist) the 0420's 45mm case is not too big, not too small, it is an automatic (I might actually regret that decision) and after wearing an Invicta Russian diver for the last few weeks, I'm really looking forward to the 4oz weight of the all Titanium construction.

Secondly, I was THIS CLOSE (squeezing fingers together) to buying the Stuhrling Regatta but I read not one, but TWO reviews where the bezel just popped off and hit the floor. No go. :nono1:

And finally, a member over on the Watchfreeks forum has an 0420 and loves it. That's good enough for me!

Anyway...we'll see what happens. I might go back to my hefty ol' Russian diver. Who knows.

"I would personally stay away from Invicta - I've read nothing really good about them (from what I understand, lot's of their claims about their watches have been proven to be lies and they're known for ripping off other manufacturers' designs)."

Nothing wrong with the Invicta's, I have several...no problems.

As far as ripping off other manuf...what do you think a "clone" is?

Swiss quartz, automatic, and manuel are very different watches.
Japenese make a very nice quartz drive.....With Swiss parts

Plus they come in large enough strap sizes ,that you dont have to go get a larger one.
Multiple models , drives and finishes for just about anyone.

But to each his own.

I kinda like the ecodrive watches, I just dont like that a Manning advertises them...8/

GED ,I chose the poly strap for my RD, makes a Lot of difference in the weight... ;)

I have several watches - high dollar to low dollar. I really like the G-Shock for a very affordable watch with many many choices: I especially like the solar power and radio controlled time. I never change a battery or reset the time or date. Lots of other cool options for $75 - $500.

Read any site that sells Invicta and has reviews and you'll see a large number of complaints about failures and breakage. Some seem to do fine, but I just don't like spending $100 or more when there is a higher chance of failure than me spending my $100 on a brand that doesn't have that track record. I'm sure lots of folks have Invicta watches without issues, but I don't have a whole lot of toy-money, so I am very particular about where I spend it.

As to their lies / lawsuits against them / shady business practices, you only need to google and find:

Basically, there are several sites within the watch-community that are of the opinion that many of Invicta's claims about movements/jewelled-mechanisms/country-of-origin are lies - and some have gone as far as posting proof of those lies, and that Invicta has ripped off other companies' designs (not just made similar looking "Homage" watches, but straight copied to the point of being sued), and more than once lied about having permission to use a mechanism from company XYZ (that was a lie, and the mechanism wasn't from company XYZ at all), etc. They have had more than one lawsuit over this from what I understand.

With all of that said, there seem to be plenty of folks who have no issues with their Invicta (there are literally millions of them out there), so it's possible that you can get a good one. I was only passing on what I have read since an opinion was asked for, but I don't personally have any experience with them.

I'm relatively new to the watch world, but my rule of thumb with knives is to avoid anything that is available via the Home Shopping Network, so I pretty much follow that with watches as well (I may be wrong about that though).

I'm not sure what you mean that Japanese make a very nice quartz watch with Swiss parts.

I also dont have any problems with Home Shopping Network Knives, but like I said to each theyre own.

Japanese movement with Swiss supplied parts, hands , faces , cases, bracelets.

There are collectables , then there are usables.
I wouldnt use a custom knife to hack at branches, or open paint cans, and would be really upset if lost in the woods, or stolen.
I Use my knives, some last some dont, no great loss.

Lawsuits and frivilous notions are everywhere, I'm not defending just sayin... ;)

I threw Invicta's out there because, I. have had good luck with them, but I have pretty good luck with taurus revo's too.. ;) imagine that.. LOL

Anyway Good Luck on your watch searches ,,,ALL were pretty nice...Now just picking the right one ... ;)

Oh Yea , its an addiction...8/

I don't open any paint cans with my knives either - I pretty much just use them to cut stuff. Right tool for the right job and all.

What watches are you talking about that use Japanese movement with Swiss supplied parts?
